Healing is possible.
My name is Dr. Danielle Chesney. I am a psychologist and TFMR mom who helps parents heal after the heartbreaking experience of ending a wanted pregnancy.
Who am I professionally?
I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in grief and loss.
I have had extensive training in the most useful and effective therapy strategies. This knowledge, coupled with my varied experiences from private practice to university mental health centers, has allowed me to gain the insight necessary to tailor my treatment to best fit each patient.
I have been specializing in grief and loss for more than 10 years. I have found this work to be extremely meaningful as I watch my patients go from a place of pain and distress when thinking about their loved one to a place where they can find happiness again and connection to their loved one without overwhelming pain.
My friends and family describe me as genuine, understanding and funny. I will bring those qualities into our therapeutic relationship, so that you can feel comfortable to express everything you are feeling. We will work together to learn what to hold on to and what to let go of.
Who am I personally?
I am a TFMR mom to my son. When I had my TFMR, I struggled to find a therapist who was knowledgeable and competent in working with parents who had ended a wanted pregnancy. I worried a different therapist might not be be open to helping me or might judge my choice. I was already judging myself enough, and that was the last thing I needed!
I wanted a therapist who would do more than just assure me everything would be ok. I wanted a therapist who understood the nuanced difference between the pain of a TFMR versus the pain of a miscarriage or stillbirth. I wanted a therapist who didn’t need me to explain the tests, appointments, and procedures. I just wanted to tell my story.
It became clear to me that one day, after I found a way to heal, I would use my skills as a psychologist to help other parents who had experienced a termination for medical reasons.
That led me to where I am today - founder of Healing After TFMR.
